International GCB MiniPrint 2022 shortlisted my monoprint “Bodega No. 1.” The exhibition was organized by a non-profit organization, Graphik-Collegium Berlin. This is the organization’s first juried exhibition that invited printmakers from all over the world.

The exhibition is open-themed with the only parameter that the work would be sized at sized 10×15 cm.

I entered two monoprint relief prints: “Sea kissed” and “Bodega No. 1”

"Bodega No. 1" and entry to the International GCB MiniPrint 2022

Bodega No. 1 is inspired by sari-sari stores that leave soda bottle crates stacked usually in front of their shop where customers can leave the glass bottles they’ve consumed. These are later picked up by the soda distributor and replaced with new bottles just like the way milk used to be delivered decades ago.

This is a monoprint relief print made with hand-carved stamps, inked with oil-based inks. Handprinted on watercolor paper.

The second print which was not selected for exhibition is “Sea Kissed.”

“Sea-kissed” is a response to the exhibition “Lonely Vectors” by the Singapore Art Museum. It would be my first time to see the Tanjong Pagar industrial district, a port area in Singapore.

It’s also on this trip that I noticed how cargo ships fill the horizon of Sentosa Beach. I find it unusual as opposed to the sea horizons we have in the Philippines, being mostly water for miles until you see a small fishing boat or a dolphin if you’re lucky.

Like Bodega No. 1, this is a monoprint inked with oil-based ink pads printed on copy paper. This work was sold at Cartellino’s First Edition, a fundraiser event.

Bodega No. 1 was also featured on the event’s flyer, helping it to stand out from a selection of 300 works from all over the world.
