1st International GCB MiniPrint 2022 shortlisted my monoprint “Bodega No. 1.” The exhibition was organized by a non-profit organization, Graphik-Collegium Berlin. This is the group’s first juried exhibition that invited printmakers from all over the world to submit small prints sized 10×15 cm.

For its first edition, there were over 300 works by artists from almost 50 countries. The prints were open-themed with no rules as to what material and techniques would be used, except for the limitation of the printing area. It was juried by Dr. Anke Schwarz-Weisweber and Astrid Volpert.

“The idea (for the competition) was born during the bad time of the Corona lockdown. We heavily relied on communication via mail art out of necessity and it was well received. So we thought why not give this a try and open the project around the world?” said Dr. Schwarz-Weisweber, one of the jurors.

1st International GCB MiniPrint exhibition ran from November 11 – December 17, 2022, at STUDIO BILDENDE ART in Berlin.

Because of unusual circumstances with the global postal service, my work was among several prints that did not arrive in time for the Vernissage hence a placeholder was displayed in its place. I was informed that my work was received in the middle of the exhibition’s run. So guests who attended the Finissage were able to see the actual work on display.

The small prints were displayed in groups and sorted thematically according to the orientation of the print. Each was mounted on shared frames holding anywhere between 8 to 4 prints per frame.

“For the jury, the result of the competition as seen in the exhibition can be admired, a pleasant surprise and at the same time a burden: so many, really award-worthy graphics and yet only three prizes could be awarded. How could we choose? It’s a bit like an Olympiad: Participation is everything. Many deserve an award.” Dr. Schwarz-Weisweber said at the Vernissage.

Although my work was not among the prize-winning works, it was a bonus for it to be featured in the flyer.
