Shachihata Iromoyo 2024 new colors are making their way to Asian regions.
Shachihata announced in February that it would release a collection called 「くすみカラー」 (Kusumi kara) or dull (muted?) colors inspired by Japanese traditional colors. I am reporting about this only now because I’ve seen these new colors sold in a Malaysian stationery shop.
I haven’t had any luck buying this since it’s been mostly sold out in Japanese stores since its launch. As per my communication with the local distributor of Shachihata inks, only the original 24 colors are available to buy off-the-rack.
Here are the five new colors and their translated descriptions from Shachihata’s official Instagram account.
Amber (Kohaku-iro)
An ancient natural resin fossilized in the soil. A dull reddish yellow, like amber. It’s also reminiscent of the color of whiskey.
Turmeric (Ukon-iro)
It is obtained from the roots of turmeric, which came to the United States from India.
A deep yellow with a strong reddish tinge from the dye.
Koji dust (Kikujin color)
A grayish-yellow color similar to koji mold. A certain green-blue color.
Masuhana (Masuhana-iro)
Used by Kabuki actor “Ichikawa Danjuro V” in the late Edo period. A popular grayish-blue color.
Flax (Amai-iro)
Spun from fibers taken from flax stalks, said to be the oldest plant in human history. Thread-like, pale brown with a yellow tint.

As of today, there are no plans from Shachihata to make these colors available in small sizes. But that’s open to speculation since the 2021 colors were eventually offered in small sizes.
The original 24 colors are currently available locally through Artline Philippines via Stationery Central PH and also through our shop.
