Block Printing Workshops for Muji Philippines
May 25, 2025 – Muji Glorietta 3 | June 1, 2025 – Muji SM North EDSA

I was invited by Muji Philippines to conduct a special series of block printing workshops that would incorporate one of their products in a creative, hands-on way. Initially considering their signature canvas totes, the team ultimately decided on everyday t-shirts—a practical yet versatile canvas that encouraged greater creative freedom among participants.

The workshops were hosted at Muji’s flagship store in Glorietta 3 on May 25 and at their SM North EDSA location on June 1, 2025. Each session was designed to be accessible for beginners while offering insight into the printmaking process I’ve developed over the years. I demonstrated my own methods of block printing, drawing a parallel to Keshigomu Hanko, the Japanese tradition of eraser stamp carving—an approach that resonated deeply with Muji’s minimalist and craft-forward brand ethos.

Participants were introduced to techniques that allowed them to print on fabric without compromising the structure and feel of the t-shirt. I brought a curated selection of carved blocks from my existing body of work, featuring a variety of designs in different sizes. This gave attendees the freedom to mix, match, and layer prints according to their personal style.

Choosing t-shirts as the workshop medium offered a straightforward and practical fit for the brand. It aligned with Muji’s everyday clothing line and allowed for immediate, wearable results. The format also made it easy for participants to engage with the process using familiar materials, reinforcing the brand’s focus on accessible, functional design.

These workshops ran for roughly an hour and half keeping the participants engaged and motivated to complete their outputs. The workshop was part of Muji’s Member-exclusive program, with slots offered as a perk to registered Muji Members. As it was integrated into the brand’s broader marketing efforts, we were also able to offer the sessions at an accessible price point.
